The Godwin-Thompson Duo
MARK GODWIN is a professional musician, composer and educator. He graduated with a degree in guitar
performance from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. He has attended and performed in numerous master classes with
Michael Newman, Christian Kieser and Oscar Ghiglia. Mr. Godwin has taught private and classroom instruction since 1979.
He has served on the faculty of David Lipscomb University since 1990 and Belmont University since 2002. Proficient at both
classic and contemporary music, he has performed professionally from blues clubs to Carnegie Hall. He currently works as a
sideman and recording musician. He serves as the Director of the Nashville Childbloom Guitar Program.
ROBERT THOMPSON who
began his guitar studies at age ten, received his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in guitar performance from Ball
State University. He has performed in master classes with Sergio and Odair Assad, Manuel Barrueco, Lily Afshar, Jeffrey
Van, Joseph Breznikar, and Clare Callahan. He has participated in summer seminars and workshops at the College-Conservatory
of Cincinnati, Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Elmhurst College, and Southern Illinois University. As a soloist
and chamber musician, Mr. Thompson has performed throughout the United States and at the 1985 Montreux Jazz Festival in
Switzerland with the Ball State Jazz Band. In January of 2000, he made his New York City debut at Carnegie Hall Studios as a
member of the Godwin-Thompson duo. He has also performed with the Nashville Ballet and been featured on a number of Nashville
PBS television specials in concert. He has performed guitar on tracks with the London Symphony, the Word Gospel Music Showcase,
and at Nashville's legendary Ryman Auditorium. Mr. Thompson currently serves on the guitar faculty as an instructor of guitar
at Belmont University and also Director of the Belmont Classical Guitar Ensemble. He is currently a featured columnist in both
"Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine" and MelBay's "Fingerstyle Review".
